"스리랑카 고추 교배종자 생산·보급 시범마을 조성"

스리랑카는 국민들의 식탁에서 빠질 수 없는 필수 채소인 고추 종자의 대부분을 수입에 의존하고 있어 자급률 향상이 시급한 과제이다. KOPIA 스리랑카 센터(소장 박평식)는 ‘고추 교배종자 생산·보급 시범마을 조성(2024-26)’ 사업으로 농업청(DOA) 소속기관과 농업학교 등에 망실하우스를 설치하여 우량종자를 생산하고 시범마을을 조성하고 있다.

 

프로젝트의 주요 목표는 다음과 같다. 망실하우스에서 스리랑카 적응 고추 종자의 안정적 생산시스템을 구축해 농가에 보급한다. 현지에서 개발된 품종의 교배종자 생산량을 늘리고, 녹색 및 건조 고추 생산 시범마을 조성으로 고추 생산을 확대하여, 농가소득 향상과 외화지출을 줄이고 국민의 식생활 안정을 기하는 것이다.

 

수행 내용은 망실하우스 20동(2,000ft²/동) 설치, MICH Hy1 품종으로 인증된 교배종자 생산(400kg), 시범마을 10개 지역 2,000농가 선정 및 농가 교육, 고추 생산성 및 소득 증대를 위한 예비조사, 시범마을에 고추 건조기(10대) 도입으로 부가가치 제고, 농업인 육성 및 기술지원 지침서 제작 등을 통해 고추 생산증대에 집중하고 있다.

 

스리랑카 정부와 농가들도 기대가 큰데, 최근 농업청장이 직접 남부지역에 있는 Middeniya 현장을 찾아 담당자들을 격려하고, KOPIA 사업 꼭 성공시켜야 한다고 말한 것이 RK-TV 뉴스로 크게 보도되었다. 우량종자를 생산해 시범마을을 육성함으로써, 자급률 향상과 외화절약으로 농가경제에 많은 도움이 될 것이다.

About the KOPIA Program

We love to share what we have experienced. An acronym for “KOrea Partnership for Innovation of Agriculture,” KOPIA is an operation of the Rural Development Administration (RDA) in the Republic of Korea.

KOPIA was launched in 2009 with 6 partner countries, and has since expanded to 20 countries.

An innovative ODA program, KOPIA of RDA works closely together with partner countries to promote agricultural development in a sustainable manner. The program dispatches seasoned agricultural experts and implements cooperative projects with counterpart institutions, in line with the partners’ agricultural policies and strategies.

Through partnership, KOPIA develops, disseminates, and scales up locally-customized agricultural technologies.

 

About the KOPIA Newsletter

The KOPIA Newsletter is a publication to facilitate sharing and communication among KOPIA countries by delivering outstanding results produced by the program, new trends in agricultural technology, recommendations for future work and more. We believe it will serve as a communication channel that helps accelerate the diffusion of each partner’s agricultural technologies and experiences accumulated through KOPIA projects to neighboring countries in similar conditions.

KOPIA plans to invite more partners and carry out a broader range of agricultural ODA programs and projects. As a hub for all those interested in the field to communicate with each other, the KOPIA Newsletter will play an important role in contributing to the agricultural development in our partner countries and their neighbors, as well as increasing recognition of the program.
